With episode we shift to the final section of the MAPS Method, the S section, which deals with Skills for Sustainability. The two skills we review in this episode are SMART-ER Goals and Willpower.
SMART is an acronym that is often used to describe the characteristics of effective goals. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. MINDRAMP has added two more characteristics – Evaluated and Revised - to make your goals even SMART-ER.
We also explore the nature of willpower and describe how it can be exercised and strengthened in basically the same way that you would exercise your muscles. Like a muscle, willpower gets stronger the more it is used. And, also like a muscle, the more a muscle is used in any one session, the more fatigued it gets. This suggests being strategic about how you schedule your tasks, tackling difficult willpower challenges when you are fresh and energize and avoiding heavy willpower tasks when your reserves are depleted
