This is the second episode that examines the topic of mindsets, providing examples of some common types of mental states that influence our behavior and out sense of wellbeing. Mindsets tend to operate as a unity of opposites, or as dyads.

One mindset that is the easy to understand in this context is the Positivity/Negativity dyad. In broad strokes, we confront the challenges of life with either a positive attitude or a negative one. As discussed in the previous episode, once we recognize that we are operating from, for example, a negative perspective, it is easy to visualize how we could perform a Mindset Reset and flip to a more positive perspective. How would things change if we assume a positive, rather than a negative, outcome?

Our investigation of the positivity/negativity mindset leads to a discussion of Positive Psychology, which strives to help people prioritize positivity and to develop the skills that promote happiness, meaning and purpose.  As part of this discussion, we explore the benefits of both negative and positive emotions.

We then go on to explore three more mindset dyads that we find particularly relevant to our quest for Qualongevity (i.e. longevity + quality-of-life). We discuss the:

·      The Growth / Fixed Mindset dyad

·      The Asset-Based / Deficit-Based mindset dyad, and

·      The Pluralism / Monism dyad.
